Macalister Mansion in Penang is arguably the most beautiful colonial boutique hotel on the island of Penang, not only because of its pristine iconic white colonial façade, but its artistically tasteful modern and poetic interior, all beautifully matched to give you the best of both worlds old and new. Although a beautiful colonial hotel, it really feels like you’re a guest at someone’s home.

Macalister Mansion: An Updated Interior

Although always having beautiful rooms from the start, Macalister Mansion which was inspired by Sir Norman Macalister, the British Governor of Penang from year 1808 to 1810, sees an uplifting of the rooms which were initially laden in beautiful wood, to elegant unique marble pieces. The 8 room boutique hotel really spares no change when it comes to elevating the rooms, with each one uniquely different.

MMesmeric Rooms

The MMesmeric Collection see the use of two types of marble, the Calacatta Lincoln and Grey Emperador, with each room coming in at about 40 to 41 square metres. The white and grey panelling now envelop the bottom parcels.

MMarvel Rooms

The MMarvel Collection come in at 46 to 53 square metres with a selection of marbles using the Rossa Francia, Fior Di Pesco, Verde Alpi and Spider Red collections, with each room design and layout quite special, complete with amenities that make you feel at home.

MMonarch Rooms

The MMonarch Collection seed the use of Arabescato Orobico and Ice Emerald marbles, which comes with private balconies, the only ones in the hotel, with one room complete with a turret as a separate area with a view, one that is fit for a royalty.

The Guest Lounge

The Guest Lounge is decorated in a whimsical design, perfect for breakfast or an afternoon tea with friends and family, which is also perfect for daytime visitors for a luncheon. They do a decent nasi lemak which is can be had as part of the breakfast for guests.

The Cellar

The Cellar at Macalister Mansion is more of a whiskey lounge than any other thing, which a decent selection of rare whiskeys that is perfect for an evening in. Ask for the “secret cocktail” for something that quite a unique spectacle.

Restaurant Blanc

The fairly new Restaurant Blanc sees Executive Chef Benny Yeoh helming the kitchen serving contemporary European cuisine with a touch of Asian flare, easily one of the most up and coming restaurants on Penang Island.
