The Covid-19 has cause nationwide fear of people interacting with each other, and that’s why businesses have found new ways of delivering their service to your doorstep. From ensuring everything is sanitised and re-sanitised, the restaurant ensures that every step is taken to reduce contamination and the spread of the coronavirus.
JOLOKO Menu: Afro-Carribbean Cuisine
To those not acquainted with this form of cuisine, flavours are typically a mash of ingredients like cassava and plantain, with beans and lentils making quite the appearance, and some of its most iconic dishes including the jerk chicken and the jollof rice. JOLOKO however, expands on their menu to include modern Mexicana and hints of Tex-Mex. They currently have 3 menus: –
Bread and Dip: Avocado, Spinach, Banana Flower and Burrata
The bread and butter dip which comes with a nice creamy avocado and spinach dip, which goes well with the bread. Perfect to have while watching a film.
Guava Glazed Prawn Tostadas
One of the signatures, the guava glazed tostada is full of flavour and is definitely a must order if you’ve never been to JOLOKO. The relish adds a nice zest to the dish, which complements the prawns perfectly.
Pork Carnitas
One of the small plates, the carnitas is actually quite filling, with its intense flavour over long time cooking. The dish had the pronounced flavours of thyme, oregano, cumin and bay leaf, and is quite close to a mild curry of sorts. Went really well with the tortillas.
Spicy Fried Chicken Tenders
This typical Tex-Mex dish was very simple, yet very delicious. Simply made with battered and deep-fried chicken breast, what makes it special is the spicy sauce. Definite one for the spicy fans. Makes such a good accompaniment to beer.
Pulled Jackfruit Tamales
The tamale is made with masa, a corn-based dough and pulled jackfruit, which has the texture of pulled pork. This vegan option makes a nice small plate, which almost feels like it has meat but is completely meat-free.
Jamaican Jerk Chicken with Mango Relish
One of the best dishes on the menu, the Jamaican jerk chicken is brined giving it quite the flavour, with a little spice and sweet and tangy mango relish to complete the dish. We highly recommend this dish.
US Hanger Steak
Hay smoked, chili and seaweed rub
The hanger cut is one of those cuts usually not sold, therefore this butcher’s cut is usually kept for the butchers themselves. The US hanger steak was full of flavour, one that you would not get with a more premium cut, like how a rump has more flavour than a tenderloin. The seaweed rub and smoked hay lends a umami to the dish, making this dish probably one of the best on the menu.
Spinach Salad with Butternut and Brussel Sprouts
This simple salad is great for vegetarian options, with its simple and umami heavy flavours. The butternut gives you that meaty texture and sweet flavour, while the Brussels sprouts adds a nice bitter-umami to the dish.
Jollof Rice
The Jollof rice is a traditional West African dish that can be found in many countries, with tomatoes being one of its main ingredients, and one special ingredient, the scotch bonnet chilli which gives it that distinctive taste. Definitely punchy and flavourful.
Mezcals, Organic and Natural Wines
JOLOKO also carries a selection of wonderful mezcals, if you are in for a smoky tipple, or you can class it up by pairing your dinner with a natural or organic wine.
