What is Whisky?

Whisky comes from the Gaelic word meaning “water”, which is “uisce” in Irish Gaelic and “uisge” in Scottish Gaelic. Whisky is a type of distilled alcohol made form fermented grain, and can be made from barley, rye or wheat. Traditionally, whiskey was made from barley, but has changed as time went by. Whisky is traditionally aged in wooden oak casks. The term whisky and whiskey has also been generally debated on, with whiskey used generally in Ireland and America, while most other countries prefer the spelling whisky.

Smugglers turned visionary leaders, they introduced the railway and electric light to Speyside. And, most famously, they were pioneers of a most singular approach to distillation. James ‘The Major’ Grant was the inventor of the tall, slender stills and revolutionary purifiers that captured only the finest vapours. Together, they give Glen Grant its distinctive, elegant, fruity and nutty flavour.10 Years Glen Grant | Glen Grant Whisky | Food For Thought

I think there was a merger, so technically they are sister companies.

    • Hi Esther,
