Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026: The Chairman Reclaims The Crown

The 14th edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants took place in Hong Kong on 25th March 2026, with The Chairman reclaiming the No.1 position as Asia’s Best Restaurant. The list spans 17 cities, with eight new entries and four re-entries, reflecting a year where regional identity and ingredient-led cooking continue to define the direction of fine dining in Asia.

“This year’s ranking brings together a remarkable collection of much-loved restaurants across 17 cities in the region. Heartfelt congratulations go to all the restaurants on the list, especially The Chairman on being named No.1 in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026. The restaurant’s dedication to honouring refined Cantonese traditions and exceptional ingredient-driven cooking truly sets it apart.” — Rikki Tidball, Managing Director – Events, 50 Best.

The Chairman in Hong Kong, Best Restaurant in Asia

The Chairman in Hong Kong returns to the top spot, reclaiming the title it last held in 2021. The restaurant continues to define modern Cantonese cooking through a disciplined focus on heritage ingredients and precise execution, avoiding unnecessary reinterpretation. Its approach centres on sourcing and technique, bringing clarity to dishes that rely on depth of flavour rather than complexity of presentation.

#50BestTalks: Rooted

Held in Hong Kong ahead of the awards, #50BestTalks 2026 explored the theme of “Rooted,” focusing on how chefs across Asia are reconnecting with heritage, local produce and cultural identity. The sessions brought together chefs, sommeliers and restaurateurs to discuss how modern gastronomy is shifting away from abstraction and returning to grounded expressions of cuisine, where sourcing, sustainability and cultural context carry equal weight to technique.

50 Best Signature Sessions Hong Kong 2026

The strongest sessions were anchored by clear intent and alignment between kitchens, with Caprice, Masque, A and Gaggan at Louis Vuitton bringing together French luxury, progressive Indian cooking and pastry-led innovation into a single, high-impact menu that leaned into depth rather than novelty. Plaisance and Côte offered a more controlled expression of Mauro Colagreco’s cooking, where shared philosophy across both restaurants translated into a seamless progression of dishes that balanced technique with ingredient-driven clarity. Hansik Goo with Mingles, Bium, Onjium, 7th Door and Solbam stood apart for its singular focus on Korean cuisine, drawing from royal court traditions, fermentation and contemporary interpretation to present one of the most cohesive narratives of the week.

Malaysia Finally Breaks Through

After years of near misses, Malaysia returns to the top 50 through Au Jardin in Penang at No.39, marking the highest a Malaysian restaurant has ever been. The country’s absence has often been attributed to visibility rather than quality, and this entry signals a gradual correction as more voters begin to engage with Malaysia’s dining landscape. With stronger regional travel and increased attention on local produce, there is now a clearer pathway for Malaysian restaurants to establish a more consistent presence on the list.
